Supporting Disabled Children And Their Families

Welcome To Umbrella

We are a charity in Derby supporting disabled children, young people and their families, helping people realise their potential and helping to transform lives.

Umbrella Becomes Charity of the Year for 11 Local HSBC Branches......

Thanks to two fantastic, dedicated supporters of Umbrella. Marcia Patterson and Bev Lomax, a Mum of a child who comes to Umbrella, took the time to visit the bank and explain the terrific work we do, suggesting that we would be the ideal charity to support.

Paul from the Victory Road branch kindly prepared a presentation on Umbrella and successfully pitched his presentation against a number of other charities.

HSBC Bank A vote was taken and the majority of staff agreed Umbrella should become charity of the year for 2014 – we were absolutely delighted.

Not only will Umbrella benefit from the fundraising efforts of the 11 local branches (Ashby, Belper, Burton, Castle Donington, Derby - St Peters Street and Victory Road, Ilkeston, Mickleover, Ripley, Swadlincote and Uttoxeter) but all staff will be allowed to volunteer for one day to help at Umbrella.

100 days of volunteering amounts to a huge amount of support – activities planned include building a barbeque at Umbrella House, painting and decorating, gardening, visits to the banks for young people with disabilities, bag packing, help with our summer outings and support through out the year and the final opportunity will be helping Santa at our Christmas party in December 2014.

Bev’s chat at the bank has been so rewarding for Umbrella.

The fundraising has started and includes a 100k static bike ride in the Ilkeston Branch and a colouring competition in the Mickleover branch.

Huge and grateful thanks to everyone at HSBC Banks and of course to Bev and Marcia for enabling this to happen.

Umbrella is supported by Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council and the NHS, but we need money to develop more services. If you would like to help us offer great days out for children and young people, and deserved breaks for parents and carers, please donate now.
