‘Volunteering with Umbrella is an absolutely fantastic experience that I would recommend to anyone who wants to challenge themselves, have fun and experience life at its fullest!
I began volunteering for Umbrella around one year ago after attending a meeting to find out what Umbrella was all about. I loved the sound of taking part in trips, assisting young people with mental and physical disabilities, acting as a good role model and of course having lots of fun, so I quickly enrolled myself onto the training course!
Since then I have had a wonderful time with Umbrella, from my first trip to Derby museum as a very shy support, where I was lucky enough to work with a very understanding young lady who did a fantastic job of looking after me, to more recent trips to the park, town and even West Midlands Safari Park where I have grown in confidence and both myself and the young people I’ve worked with have had a fantastic time!
Volunteering with Umbrella has been so rewarding, not only have I gained valuable life skills and friends, I’ve also been part of a charity that really does improve people’s lives, whether it’s giving a family a well-deserved rest or helping a young person have a wonderful new experience, you really are making a difference – and I hope to continue making a difference for a long time to come!’
