The Year of the Sensory Room 2018

Home / Umbrella Update / The Year of the Sensory Room 2018

Each year, we try to pick a new project within Umbrella and this year is no exception with the decision to makeover our sensory room. Although functional, the existing room is a little tired with a mixture of specialist equipment (some now temperamental!) and items we have accumulated since arriving at Umbrella House.

We have been busy seeking funding over recent months and have secured grants from various places, the larger grants being the Big Lottery Fund who have given us £9,002 to purchase a new sensory corner and Tesco Bags For Life Scheme who provided £4,000 to purchase an interactive projector.

We have all sorts of people coming to Umbrella over the coming weeks including joiners, painters, electricians, floor fitters and installation experts! It has taken meticulous planning as Umbrella House is always busy so we had to snap up vacant days to ensure the work can be carried out safely.

We have ordered all sorts of specialist equipment including a sensory corner with a vibrating bed and hoist access, a fibre optic waterfall curtain, UV lights and so much more! We are excited to see it all come together and look forward to the reactions of the children and young people when they see the transformation.

We will have a grand opening which we hope to take place early December and will share details of this in the run up to the event.
