The aim of the Play and Leisure Service is to help promote specialist activities for children and young people with disabilities in their local area. We also provide exciting family activities and opportunities such as free Circus Starr Tickets and the annual Umbrella Christmas Party.
Groups held at Umbrella House
Tuesday Youth Club
- Open to children aged 11 – 18 who have a mild to moderate disability, requiring no 1 to 1 support.
- 6.30pm – 8.30pm – weekly
- £6 per session
- Activities have included movie & popcorn nights, arts & crafts, and the Umbrella Bake Off!
- Some activities out in the local community.
The Thursdays
- Open to children aged 12-18 with a diagnosis of High Functioning Autism and no additional learning needs.
- 6:30pm – 8.30pm – weekly
- £6 per session
- Monthly trips out in the local community.
Friday Youth Group
- Open to young adults age 15 – 30 who have a mild to moderate disability and are receiving no other services i.e. Direct payments; Short Breaks etc.
- 6:30pm to 8:30pm – fortnightly
- £6 per session
- Occasional trips out in the local community

The Umbrella Raindrops Choir
The Umbrella Raindrops meet on a Monday evening from 6pm to 7pm at the Mackworth Community Centre.
The Choir is open to children and young people with disabilities and their siblings. Parents/Carers welcome to stay and sing too!
The Raindrops is a wonderful young person led Choir, with the group putting forward songs they would like to sing. The Choir is very relaxed; there are no auditions and all singing abilities are welcome.
The Umbrella Raindrops are now quite famous following their appearance on BBC’s Children In Need show in 2018. They sang live from Derby’s Quad Centre!
